Eric Daugherty@EricLDaugh ·🚨 BREAKING: Macron is facing major outrage and calls to step down after his pathetic national address where he JUSTIFIED the "concerns" of "students" during major riots and called for meetings to address them NO! Tell them to SHOVE IT and make mass arrests, implement curfews, declare an emergency and surge troops to the streets! Instead, Macron basically did what we'd expect of him at this point. He half-a*sed it, said some areas may temporarily closed down, and vowed to prosecute proven looters (we all know that will barely happen) REMEMBER THIS IN THE NEXT ELECTION, FRANCE 🇫🇷

NOBLE P.J 👑@NOBLE_P_J_001 ·Before building @vangrid_io, Robert Brighton spent years working around some of Microsoft’s most ambitious technologies, including quantum computing and HoloLens in Europe. He also brings a decade of experience in go to market and revenue across deep tech and Web3. That background is worth paying attention to. VanGrid is working on spatial data for Physical AI, focusing on something robots and world models actually need: reliable data captured from real places. Getting that data is one challenge. Making sure it can be verified and used when needed is another. I find it interesting that the team is approaching this as an infrastructure problem, not just another AI narrative. As Physical AI develops, the quality and reliability of real world data will matter a lot. And that’s the problem VanGrid is working to solve.

Users are reacting to reports that the UK government plans to extend the TV license fee to streaming services like YouTube and Netflix, a move critics call a 'YouTube tax' to fund the BBC.
Andrew Bridgen@ABridgen ·Exactly as I predicted last January. We will all be forced to pay to fund for the BBC State Propaganda through a ‘YouTube tax’. We will all have freedom of speech as long as we only support the official narrative as supplied to us by the BBC who have just been exposed using civil service (Government) ‘fact checkers’ to censor and suppress dissenters. The reason the Government are so determined we all fund the BBC is because it works to reinforce the Government’s false narratives.
Contains a link — open on X
Reclaim The Net@ReclaimTheNetHQ ·The British government wants to extend the TV license fee to YouTube, Netflix, Amazon and Disney+. The Independent calls it the “YouTube tax,” and it is expected in the BBC charter white paper before Christmas. A Whitehall source explained the supposed purpose. The money would fund local journalism and counter the “conspiracy theories and fake news” they say have helped parties like Reform get elected. That is a government official admitting the goal is to tax the public into voting differently. The government would decide what counts as fake news. An estimated 3 to 4 million extra households would have to pay £180 a year. Many of them use YouTube precisely to avoid the BBC. A separate plan would push the legacy media to the top of people's YouTube feed. People would pay for the mainstream broadcasters, and then pay again with their algorithm.

The Canary is closing indefinitely after a series of attacks, including financial issues and employee disputes.
Canary@TheCanaryUK ·The Canary will be closed for the foreseeable future. As of today (Monday 19 October), the Canary will be closed indefinitely. After multiple attacks this year, from Lloyds debanking us to former employees spreading malicious lies on social media, the situation has become unsustainable, both financially and operationally. After 11 years, we take this action with deep sadness and regret. The extent of the lies, defamation, and harassment by ex-staff - coupled with the constant attacks by the state and those who’d see us destroyed - has become too much. However, it is not over. This week, we will publish what really happened at the Canary and push back against the vicious campaign against our team and us. We may be down, but we’re not out yet.
Bernie@Artemisfornow ·I am sorry to see that The Canary has announced it is closing indefinitely. I doubt there is much politically that The Canary and I agree on. But that's not the point. I don't mind businesses closing because they fail commercially, are badly run or simply don't have enough customers. That's life. Perhaps that is the case here. What I do mind is businesses being driven out of existence because of their opinions. The Canary says it has been debanked and subjected to campaigns of harassment. I don't know all the circumstances behind its closure, but I do know that nobody should lose access to essential services simply because somebody else dislikes what they say. Freedom of speech isn't just for people you like, or people who agree with you. It's especially important for people whose opinions you cannot stand. And if we only defend that freedom for our own side, then we don't really believe in it at all. I hope The Canary finds a way back. (possibly with better accountants)

Where does the list come from?
From X's official trending topics for the UK, collected every 10 minutes. Trend names are shown as they appear on X.
How is "why it's trending" written?
